Before putting a single word to paper about this record, I wanted to confirm with John Nap what C.C.T. actually stood for – not philosophically, because once you meet John you’ll understand that that’s a silly question. C.C.T. stands for Christian Conservative Terrorist. “Fuck anyone with a problem with it.” Thank you for the clarification, John.

You know when the record starts with a bunch of old, naked white people summoning one of the seven Kings of Hell over some fat beats, it’s going to be a fun ride. I think the dissection of this culture is not one that needs to be handled with care or with tales of enlightenment. The time for talking has ended. On your first listen you might get the idea that C.C.T. is filled with dread, but what your listening to is merely inevitability.

Don’t kid yourself, this isn’t some greenhorn hip-firing a belt-fed into open desert just to hear brass hit the sand. This is a combat-seasoned operator of physical and spiritual wars laying down hyper-precise breakbeats. Let me be more precise though – it’s a cultural vivisection (fucking love that word and I never get to use it) performed with breakbeats and a rusted and reliable scalpel. The equipment and the man are both battled tasted. Everything is laid out, pin by pin and spring by spring so there’s no confusion.

I cannot overstate how refreshing and clean the beats are on this record – it’s like coming up for air at times. There’s also a couple of great collaborative tracks with Sumner (Production Unit Xero & Noyouyesme) for which I am eternally grateful. They’re not so much relief as they are reinforcements in this eternal struggle between us and the forces of Old and Evil. Nap treats this time as if the window is brief; and he refuses to waste a second of it. You listen and feel that dangerous conviction: that the noise is righteous, that sabotage is more of a necessity and whatever pulse you get form this is itself a form of testimony.

This right wing movement operates with the psychological architecture of extremism: absolute certainty, apocalyptic language, enemies everywhere and God enlisted as both tactical advisor and slayer. I’m here to say unequivocally that Conservative Christians are terrorists. I did not need convincing – what gives me a grim kind of comfort is hearing others articulate this so clearly. Calling out extremism matters. And while you’re taking part in your semantics warfare, just remember that the battlefield is being neglected. Are you doing your part? I sure fucking hope so.

Great album.
