Katabatik Konclave 2024 (live set) | SPINES
SPINES (aka MGM Contributor V. Rose) played Katabatik a couple of years back and luckily for all of us, someone recorded it. I’ve been listening to this set on and off for the past year or so. Are you a fan of Yuzo Koshiro? Well, congratulations – you’re a fan of SPINES in all of their Alien Dance Music glory. Their music carries that same sense of forward motion and melodic circuitry, then pushes it into stranger, squelchier territory. Don’t forget to their EQ Set from last year, too. That set was absolutely NUTS,

Redux – 2026 by Dao Strom
We reviewed Dao Strom’s work last year, so I definitely had my ears open for this release. Apparently, this is an album of old songs re-released – and just like the implied time dilution effect these tracks can have on a human experiencing them again or for the first time, each one of these tracks feel like they fit perfectly in this space. Wow, got a little spaced out but I stand by it. Great album.

Rose Peddler by Shine Runna
As a listening experience, Rose Peddler is sharp and emotionally intense. It intertwines genres in really surprising ways. “PO Reign” is relentlessly catchy and I cannot stop listening to it. The production is top notch and Shine gives the music space to move – and that really matters, because these songs carry a lot of weight and a lot of information. Wonderful album.

The Technomancer’s Handbook (Visitation 2) by Production Unit Xero
This is an under-the-radar release from one of my favorite electronic musicians, Production Unit Xero. I’ve kept up with a lot of their releases over the years and this definitely sounds like some of their classic work. Production Unit Xero is always evolving and moving in new directions, but admittedly they do have a specific classic sound and it can be found all throughout this showcase. I’m currently on a personal drum and bass & jungle journey, so right now Sparkling Jungle (track 2) is my favorite.

Digital Thirst by Digital Thirst
I love it when the right kind of Jazz Fusion finds me. Machado Mijiga made my list a few weeks ago, so of course I was intrigued by their other project Digital Thirst – it was definitely quenching my thirst for some solid improvisational experimental jazz. Very elemental and lots of delay/reverb. Parasocial Me (track 3) is definitely where I’m at right now in life. Give it a listen.
