Authenticity: it’s a rare and endangered beast in a world awash with cheap corporate plastic souls and the sour stench of cynicism. We think we’ve found something truly authentic in “Black Tie” by Domino. Recorded in December of 2014 in New York, this album has just been sitting there waiting for someone to discover it – and we’re so glad we did.
The album starts with something that at first glance would appear to be a soliloquy, but really it’s an ode to a temperamental kitty – and we’re off to the races. When you’re greeted into someone’s world, it feels nice to look around and see things the way they see them. The standout track on this album is “The Super Repeats” – it’s so catchy I guarantee you’ll be shouting the chorus at strangers in line for coffee for the next week.
It’s authentic, it’s pop, it’s punk and it’s unapologetically alive. If you’re willing to step out of your own monotony for a moment and let yourself be pulled into its orbit, Black Tie has a lot to say – and we should all be listening.
