Something for the Missus by GNAVE
There’s something very sweet about this album. Like really, it’s got so much charm. Dubious Rings (track 2) is a wonderful listen and has the correct use of the environment to make it sound … lived in. Lived in – like the music feels very leathery, but has absolutely been oiled over the years. The music on this record has been handled a bit, definitely bent, sweated into, and loved a whole lot. Very fun.

Night Sweat E.P. by A.Metheus
Repetition works, David. What I want out of a Techno album is invigorating repetition – a very particular state of energized return. Night Sweat is that album this week. To me, a lot of techno is just plain boring, but this hits a nice sweet spot of invigoration and playfulness. I feel like that is getting close to how I’m describing the first album on this list, so maybe I’m the one that’s feeling playful. Anyway, this is a fun record. Repetition works, David.

naturalblkinvention 5.9.24 set by naturalblkinvention
I was surfing through some of the Barn radio lineups when I came across this artist. Was trying to find some of their work when I came across their soundcloud page. I turned it on and started doing a task and was immediately drawn in. Again, I don’t know how I keep getting these whimsical records and recordings, but man what a great set. Absolutely give this a listen.

Carry, Respondents by Nu A.M.
Back to basics for me: ambient. This is an older record (cannot believe 2020 is six years ago) but one I was happy to stumble across. I was reading this book about the state of leftists movements in Latin America and the track “Call the Midwest Center For White Guilt” started playing and I was transported into a cloudless sky of endless atmosphere, with the earth gone soft beneath me and outer space somehow still out of reach – a permanent mesosphere. Cannot wait to listen to more of Nu A.M.’s work. Give this a listen.

Of The Draw by Martyn Bootyspoon
Here’s another playful record that makes me want to dance. At this point, I’m starting to suspect the problem is me. Maybe I just want to dance. Either way, this is my first time listening to Martyn Bootyspoon‘s work so and I can already tell I’m going to feel this way again in the future. Of course I love My House, My Rules (Sweaty!) (track 5) but only because it’s weird and sounds like a 1991 fever dream, complete with abrupt ending. You’ll know what I mean when you listen to it. Fun album.
