Album: The Warhorse EP (2022)
Release Date: January 25, 2022
EPs from artists like Solenoid are great because you know it isn’t the Crème de la Crème of what they have to offer – it’s more of a tasting menu of sonic happiness. This short evolution runs only 13:42, but there’s no wasted motion. Warhorse-19 is a catchy tune with the right amount of oomph and low-fi joy to bring even the darkest of Friday afternoons into a toe tapping and heart vibing break from reality. It just feels nice and honestly it made me wish there were four more tracks just like it.
Opium Underground finishes off the EP with a seemingly ordinary and fun beat and melody, that turns way more satisfying than it has any right to be. It feels like Solenoid couldn’t decide where the meat of the track should go, so they put it on the entire track. There’s some fun slightly pitch-bent melodies thrown in there that really bring this whole thing together.
